Wreath Pickup1 HOUR!

Yes, with the tremendous help of 700-1,000 volunteers, on Saturday, January 8, 2012 we cleared the cemetery in only 1 hour of the 31,000 wreaths. A huge Thank You to everyone that attended!

We had beautiful weather and good company, but without your help the task would have taken all day. It went so well that everything was cleaned up before the funeral procession at 11:30am came through.

Thank You Houston!

We have already started our campaign for 2012.  It’s a great time to get your groups and teams set-up and involved while people are still thinking about wreaths.

Houston National Cemetery

2011 Event

On December 12, 2011, it was a chilly, crisp morning as the escort of 400+ motorcycles pulled in to the Houston National Cemetery with the six Wreaths Across America semi trucks.

There was a simple, yet very respectful, ceremony at 11:00am, complete with a 21 gun salute, echo Taps, a bagpipe troop, and a Coast Guard fly over.

The most impressive thing to see though, was the overwhelming presence of 15,000+ people from all over the country paying their respects to our fallen heroes.

We laid over 31,000 wreaths! As we work toward our goal of laying a wreath upon all 59,000+ headstones, we couldn’t more proud of the way Houston has shown its support for our military.

The staff at Houston National Cemetery did an amazing job getting the facility ready for the day and the work showed in how nice it looked. You are encouraged to visit the cemetery yourself and take a look at the awe inspiring display.

Thank you to the Board of Directors at Wreaths Across America-Houston that spent over a year planning and getting this event put together. You are all very special people. Laying of the wreaths would not have been possible if we did not have the support of the individuals, small companies, corporations and groups that worked throughout the year getting wreath sponsorships.

There are several unspoken supporters that should be recognized for their assistance in making this event happen. I hope you will take the time to let these companies know about your appreciation for their involvement in this amazing project.
